If you’ve ever played Nintendo 64 back in the day, there’s a very good chance that you’ve heard music by composer Grant Kirkhope. He worked for developer Rare Ltd. at their height of popularity, and that popularity was born and raised on the Nintendo 64.

Grant was a staff composer who contributed to games like GoldenEye 007, Donkey Kong 64, the beloved Banjo-Kazooie series, and its Kickstarted spiritual successor: Yooka-Laylee.

 Grant’s a great guy, and in this interview we talk about his roots as a trumpet-playing metalhead, his time as a staff composer for Rare Ltd., and how his mindset enables him to avoid writer’s block. Watch the entire interview below:
